About
Margie O'Brien (MA Fine Arts, California) is a painter-printmaker who works primarily in oils. Her subject range is diverse but most of her subjects are inspired by African wildlife, which has been a lifelong passion of hers.
After three decades in secondary and tertiary Art education in South Africa and the United Kingdom, Margie now now focuses on her own artwork, dividing her time between studios in Surrey and the Cape winelands.
She travels extensively through Africa and Europe, visiting national parks, game reserves, remote wilderness areas and heritage sites. She later reworks and develops her photographs and ideas into painted compositions.
Essentially naturalistic in style, Margie's work often contrasts keenly observed detail with rough impasto brushwork in her backgrounds -achieved through innovatively created marks. Her more complex compositions are built up in layers which deliberately ignore perspective and depth, instead presenting thought-provoking juxtapositions that invite thought on evolution and extinction.
Margie exhibits her work regularly and she also paints private commissions: she is able to translate your special photos into paintings or to respond to more complex briefs.
Courier costs for paintings are not prohibitive and Margie's commissions target an international market...
